Why should I consider enrolling my child in a speed and movement clinic?

Some of the greatest gains in athletic development occur prior to puberty.  This is a critical time for athletic development due to the accelerated adaptability of the nervous system.  The athlete’s ability to be fast increases as their neuromuscular control increases.

Being fast is much more than being able to sprint from point A to point B. With the exception of track, no sport that I can think of only has acceleration in one direction.  Speed is about coordination, acceleration, deceleration, changes in direction, being able sprint and jump, or jump and then sprint, and a whole multitude of other movements.  Therefore broad, early exposure to key athletic movements’ serves as the basis in developing specific coordination and speed in the teenage years.

Expose young athletes and teach them how to execute athletic skills correctly and they will improve.  If they don’t learn early to execute movements correctly they will struggle, especially when trying to learn more sport specific athletic technique.  Athletes who never learn correct movement patterns are at risk for injury. If the athlete has not incorporated correct posture and alignment into their movements, ankles roll and  knees give out.

Our speed and movement clinics are designed to safely expose and teach athletes functional movement patterns and more importantly how to execute them correctly.  Coordination and athleticism is a process that must be developed over time.  Our goal is to expose athletes to variety athletic movements including those that are central to the development of speed.  Our other goal is to educate children and parents on the concepts of athletic development so that they can continue to train and make improvements on their own.   Athletes from all sports will have fun, and benefit from these clinics!

If you have specific questions about our clinics please feel free to e-mail  info@vantagesportsperformance.com  or call me at 763-202-6009.

Athletes learn rather quickly coordinated patterns and fast feet by using ladders.

Athletes are taught that a hip turn is a faster and more efficient athletic movement than the pivot for changes in direction.
